He fought in the North African Theatre. His specialty was Field Artillery, Armored 105 MM Howitzer, Battalion Training/Combat Special Troops. He was captured by the Italians but subsequently escaped in December of 1944 from Prisoner of War Camp CC 59 in Ascoli Piceno, Italy.
