Rank: Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class. Served as a Medical Corpsman in the Pacific Theater of Operations and experienced combat with the 27th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine ‘the Spearhead/Fighting Fifth’ Division. He participated in the amphibious assault on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Battle Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945), Code Name: Operation Detachment. Tuesday, March 6, 1945 he was killed in action and buried in the Fifth Marine Division battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were returned to his family, with interment in the Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Sacramento, California. This Seaman, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
