Activity During WWII

SERVED FROM JANUARY 14, 1942 UNTIL JUNE 14, 1944. SERVED WITH COMPANY 'G', 148TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 37TH INFANTRY DIVISION. SAW ACTION IN THE NORTHERN SOLOMON ISLANDS CAMPAIGN. PARTICIPATED IN ACTIONS AT MUNDA AND BOUGAINVILLE. WHEN HIS OUTFIT WAS CUT OFF FROM FROM THE REGULAR FORCES AND WAS BEING POUNDED WITH GUNFIRE, HE, ALONG WITH TWO OTHERS VOLUNTEERED TO CROSS OPEN FIELDS AND THROUGH DENSE, ENEMY INFESTED BRUSH IN ORDER TO BRING UP REINFORCEMENTS. HE WAS SHOT IN THE LEG BUT COMPLETED HIS MISSION DURING THE NIGHT AND RETURNED THE TO HIS UNIT THE FOLLOWING DAY. AWARDED THE SILVER STAR, PURPLE HEART, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE.
