Initially turned down by the Army because of his poor eyesight. He joined the American Field Service in Africa serving with the British 8th Army and then the U.S. Army. Returned to the states in August, 1943 and enlisted. After basic at Ft. Dix, he transferred to the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Armored Division. He landed after D-Day with the 82nd and died in combat on August 7, 1944 near Saint Pois, France.
