After serving for four years in the U.S. Army, stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, with Battalion 21, Company B, he reenlisted. He was again stationed in Hawaii, but this term, he was assigned to Battalion 15, Company A, Coast Artillery at Fort Kamehameha. After the bombing of Peal Harbor, his assignment included burial duties for the military service men who died in that attack. He also participated in a ceremony in San Francisco, creating the Charter of the United Nations. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
