He enlisted in the Navy on April 1, 1944. He was assigned to and was on board the fast carrier, the USS Randolph at its commissioning at the Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Virginia on October 9, 1944. He was assigned to duties with the Supply S-1 unit on the Randolph during its accomplishments in the Pacific Theater of operations, including its role in Task Force 58. He was transferred from the Randolph on January 15, 1946 and honorably discharged from military service on January 21, 1946.
