He was a member of the 82nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of the 2nd Armored Division. He fought in many campaigns during the liberation of occupied Europe including in France and the Rhineland. Highly decorated, he earned the Purple Heart and both he and his unit earned both the Presidential Unit Citation and the Belgian Croix De Guerre for their sacrifices and personal valor.
