He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1936. He was taken prisoner at the fall of Corregidor by the Japanese and spent 39.5 months as a Prisoner of War. He was held near Mukden, Manchuria at the Hoten prison camp. He was released at the end of WWII and continued to serve his country.
