He was a member of the 388th Bomb Group, 560th Bomb Squadron, served as a Waist Gunner on the B-17 named 'Millie K' that was shot down in September, 1944. The entire crew ejected and he was taken prisoner by the Germans. He was held for eight months in a Polish war camp. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
