He volunteered November, 1943 at the age of 18. He was sent to an electrician school at the University of Minnesota. There he graduated in the top ten of his class and was sent to the degaussing school at Norfolk, Virginia. At Norfolk he was again graduated in the top five in this class and was sent to Treasure Island, California to an advanced degaussing school. Again at the top of the class he was one of two ordered to report at the Degaussing Station at Beckoning Point, Pearl Harbor for the duration of the war. He was discharged June 27th, 1946 as an Electrician 3rd Class form Shoemaker, California.
