Enlisted on 4 July 1942 at Louisville, Kentucky. Reported aboard the USS Tuscaloosa CA-37, a New Orleans Class cruiser. May, 1943 escorted the RMS Queen Mary with the British Prime Minister Churchill aboard to New York City. October, 1943 cover force for the USS Ranger air strikes on Bodo, Norway. August, 1944 to January, 1945 operated in the Mediterranean Sea. January, 1945 joined the 3rd Fleet at Ulithi. February to June, 1945 with the Bombardment Group of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. June, 1945 joined the 7th Fleet at Leyte Gulf, Philippine Islands. 27 August 1945 departed for Korean and Manchurian waters with stop at Tsingtao, China and anchored at Incheon, Korea. Arrived in San Francisco, California on 29 January 1946.
