Activity During WWII

He joined the Coast Guard in June of 1941 when he was 18 years old. He was sent to radio school in New London, Connecticut in 1942. From there he was sent to Hidden Inlet, Alaska. He was the only serviceman there and his responsibilities and duties included: Acting Naval Intelligence Officer, Customs and Immigration, Captain of the Port, and Radio Operator, responsible for reporting aircraft and sea vessels. He was later sent to Ketchikan, Alaska, to be the Watch Supervisor for the Communications Center. Later sent to Craig, Alaska as Radioman in Charge. Later sent to San Francisco Radio Station and finally to Atlantic City to the High Frequency Direction Finder center. He finished his 4 year service in November, 1945. During his service he was awarded ribbons for Good Conduct, American Defense, American Area, WWII Victory, Arctic and Pacific Campaigns.
