Activity During WWII

He enlisted 26 October 1943, in the U.S. Army Air Forces. From 1943 to 1945 he served in the 20th Air Force, 73rd Wing, 498th Bomb Group and 873rd Bomb Squadron, stationed on Saipan. He was a radar operator and a gunner on B-29 aircraft; flew 35 combat missions over Japan. He earned 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 5 Air Medals, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of War Ribbon with Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
