Activity During WWII

He served in the U.S. Army, Company K, 32nd Infantry, 7th Infantry from 23 May 1941 to 2 October 1945, as a gunner. He was in many battles in the Pacific including the Battle of Attu, the Philippine Islands, the Marshall Islands and Okinawa. He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in Okinawa, Combat Infantryman Badge, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars and the American Defense Service Medal. He was presented the Distinguished Unit Citation with his Company by President Roosevelt after the battles of Attu and Kiska.
