Joined Moran Towing Company tug, 'Point Loma' in 1943 as an electrician. Towed a damaged destroyer from the Mediterranean to the U.S. Towed drydocks to the Pacific in 1944. Joined tanker 'Baltic' voyage to Hawaii. Attended Officer Candidate School in 1945 and became a licensed engineer. Sailed ESSO tankers. Delivered ships to Brazil and Argentina, and trained crews.
