He enlisted in the Army Air Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. He served as a flight instructor and fighter pilot in the European Theater of Operations and was discharged at the rank of Captain in February, 1946. He received the Air Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Theater of Operations Ribbon, and three Battle Stars.
