Activity During WWII

He was stationed in the South Pacific with the Third Fleet on the USS Canberra. On October 13, 1944, just 90 miles off the coast of Japan, his ship was was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine causing 31 fatalities and damage to the ship. Admiral Halsey used the ship with a skeletal crew as bait to lure the Japanese to the crippled vessel, and away from the Third Fleet so they could continue their war objective.
