Rank: Sergeant. On March 5, 1941, he entered the United States Army at Camp McCoy in Sparta, Wisconsin as a member of the Army National Guard. On Saturday, July 26, 1941, he died in a non-battle incident at Red Bud, Illinois. Prior to his death, he had trained with 123rd Field Artillery Battalion attached to the 33rd Infantry ‘Golden Cross’ Division. Personnel of the Quartermaster Corps returned his body to his family for burial, with interment at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois. This Soldier was an American Patriot, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of his country.
