Served on aircraft carrier USS Bismarck Sea. Near the Philippines, on first mission as a navigator, his returning plane was waved off on approach to land; as the plane was turning, the bombs on board were so heavy the plane was plunged into the sea; 3 men were never recovered -- November 14, 1944.
