Activity During WWII

Reported aboard the USS Bernadou DD-153 from Naval Torpedo Station Newport, Rhode Island on 16 October 1939 a Wickes Class destroyer assigned to Destroyer Division 6 Atlantic Squadron on Convoy duty. July, 1941 Escorted U.S. Marines to Iceland and remained on Newfoundland, Iceland until fall, 1942. Reported aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson APA-30 attack transport on 31 August 1942. Deployed to the Pacific Theater of operations with troops for New Caledonia and Australia. March, 1943 returned to the Atlantic Fleet. June, 1943 arrived at Oran with troops. September, arrived at Salerno for invasion of Sicily. November, loaded the 82nd Airborne Division for transport to Belfast, Ireland. June, supported the Normandy Invasion. July, returned for the invasion of Italy. On 15 March 1945 he reported aboard the USS Cabildo LSD-16 a Casa Grande class dock landing ship. May, 1945 sailed from New York for the Pacific Theater of Operations. arrived June at Guam and on to Okinawa, August to the Philippine Islands, September to Honshu, Japan. transferred Javanese, Dutch and Australian rescued prisoners of war to Okinawa. Returned to the USA May, 1945. Retired Chief Commissaryman Chief Petty Officer.
