Activity During WWII

Rank: Private. On September 17, 1940, he entered the United States Army Air Corps at Manchester, New Hampshire, later deployed to the Philippine Islands, Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. Served at Clark Airfield assigned to the 28th Material Squadron, 20th Air Force Group attached to the Fifth Far East Air Force. Assigned to a Provisional Infantry Company, he participated in the Philippine Islands Campaign (Battle Dates: December 8, 1941-May 6, 1942), the conquest of the Philippine Islands by the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces. The Japanese captured him April 9, 1942 on Luzon while retreating to the Bataan Peninsula in the Battle of Bataan. His captors subjected him to participate in the Bataan Death March and held captive at unknown Prisoner of War Camp. Wednesday, August 26, 1942, he died of unknown causes on the 139th day of his incarceration and buried in a United States Armed Forces Cemetery near Manila, Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester, New Hampshire. This Airman, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his life in defense of his country.
