Activity During WWII

Enlisted on 14 August 1943 at Louisville, Kentucky. Assigned to the Commissioning Crew of the USS Baker DE-190, a Cannon Class Destroyer Escort of the 48th Escort Division-Atlantic Fleet for escort duty. Earned one battle star for assistance in sinking the German U boat 233. Rescued 31 survivors. On 23 February 1945 sustained heavy damage from a North Atlantic storm. Anchored at Reykjavik, Iceland for repairs. Transferred on 31 October 1945 to Great Lakes Naval Station, Illinois for discharge. Rating of Seaman First Class.
