Activity During WWII

He requested to be released from his work at the Charleston Navy Yard so that he could enlist and follow his older brother and his brother in-law into the Navy. He instead found himself in the Army Artillery. He served from October, 1943 until November of 1945 and was in the European Theater of Operations. He was awarded a Purple Heart as a result of combat in Europe. Upon his return to the U.S., he went back to his former job at the Charleston Naval Yard.
