Activity During WWII

Enlisted in the Air Corps on August 6, 1942. He was sent to Atlantic City at the Ambassador Hotel. From there, he was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base, Lincoln, Nebraska. While at Lincoln, HE EARNED THE RANK OF CORPORAL. He was on the squadron track team as a pole vaulter. HE WAS THEN ASSIGNED to the 18th Replacement Group, 18th Army Air Base at Salt Lake City, Utah. SERVED in a combat crew on a bomber. While stationed at Gowen Field, Boise Idaho, HE FLEW WITH ACTOR Jimmy Stewart. HE served mostly in Italy and flew on B-17 and B-24 bombers AS A GUNNER. He reached the rank of Master Sergeant in 1945. Discharged October 20, 1945 at Baer Field, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
