HE enlisted in the United States Army on September 10, 1942. His release date was October 8, 1943. Sent to Fort Benjamin Harrison and then on to Camp Sibert, Gadsden, Alabama where he studied at the chemical warfare school. HE WAS also stationed with the ROTC unit, University of Florida in Gainesville for training before returning back to Camp Sibert. HE WAS given an honorable discharge from army service at Camp Sibert, Alabama on October 8, 1943.
