Activity During WWII

Rank: Private 1st Class. On February 4, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from New York, receiving his Basic Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations where he served as a Rifleman, assigned to the 23rd Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the 4th ‘the Fighting Fourth’ Division. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Japanese Imperial Army and Naval forces on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Battle Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945) Code Name: Operation Detachment. Killed in action Tuesday, March 6, 1945 and buried in the Fourth Marine Division battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment April 27, 1948 at the Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, New York. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
