Activity During WWII

Rank: Private. On January 22, 1941, he entered the United States Army at Louisville, Kentucky, later deployed to the Philippine Islands, Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. Served with Delta Company, 192nd Tank Battalion an element of the Provisional Tank Group. His unit participated in the Philippine Islands Campaign (Battle Dates: December 8, 1941-May 6, 1942), the conquest of the Philippine Islands by the Japanese Imperial Army and Naval forces. The Japanese captured him April 9, 1942 on Luzon while his unit was in retreat to the Bataan Peninsula in the Battle of Bataan. His captors subjected him to participate in the Bataan Death March, incarcerated at the Prisoner of War Camp O’Donnell and the Prisoner of War Camp #1 Cabanatuan Nueva Province, Luzon for 33 months. On the evening of January 30, 1945 members of the U.S. Army 6th Ranger Battalion, with a large contingent of Filipino Guerrillas conducted a raid on the Prison of War Camp #1 Cabanatuan, liberating 489 Prisoners and 33 Civilians. This Soldier, an American Patriot so gallantly served in the defense of his country.
