He attended the Japanese Language School at the University of Colorado (Boulder/Denver). He was deployed to Melbourne, Australia on SEPTEMBER 26, 1944. He was fluent in three languages: English, Spanish and Japanese. He was subsequently sent to India to translate intercepted Japanese radio transmissions.
