Joined the U.S. Navy; SEPTEMBER 24, 1940. Completed basic training in San Diego, CALIFORNIA. Assigned to the USS St. Louis from DECEMBER 5, 1940 to NOVEMBER 28, 1942. Survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on DECEMBER 7, 1941. Transferred to the USS Hobby from NOVEMBER 28, 1942 to MARCH 7, 1945. Was injured at sea and was transported via the LST-464 to the U.S. NAVAL Base Hospital #13 in Milne Bay, New Guinea in March, 1944. Transferred to the USS Fiske from NOVEMBER 28, 1945 to AUGUST 27, 1946. Transferred to the USS Strong from AUGUST 19, 1946 to NOVEMBER 29, 1946; then released.
