Activity During WWII

Rank: Corporal. On May 5, 1943, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Oregon, receiving his Combat Infantry Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. Deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations where he served as Rifleman assigned to Able Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the Fourth Marine ‘the Fighting Fourth’ Division. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Japanese Imperial Army and Naval forces on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Battle Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945) Code Name: Operation Detachment. Killed in Action Wednesday, February 28, 1945 and buried in the Fourth Marine Division battlefield cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment June 8, 1948 at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California. This Marine, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his life for his country.
