Rank: Private 1st Class. On December 10, 1943, he entered the United States Army at Indianapolis, Indiana, later deployed to the European Theater of Operations upon the completion of his infantry training. Served as a Rifleman assigned to Able Company, First Battalion, 330th Infantry Regiment a subordinate unit of the 83rd Infantry ‘Thunderbolt’ Division attached to the U.S. Third Army. His division went ashore on Omaha Beach, ‘Battle of Normandy’ June 18, 1944 the assault on the German Army Defenses. Killed in Action Tuesday, August 8, 1944 during the capture/occupation of Morlaix, France and buried in the Saint James battlefield cemetery in Avranches, France. After the cessation of hostilities in Europe, his family received his remains for burial, with interment at the Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana. This Soldier, an American Patriot so gallantly gave his life in defense of his country.
