Enlisted on 9 October 1940. Served in the Pacific Theater of operations on board the USS Houston CA-30, a Northampton-class cruiser. Reported aboard on 6 June 1941. On 28 February 1942, in company with HMS Perth, sailed from Tanjong, Java bound for Tjilatjap, Java and into the Battle of the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. At 11:06 that night they were surrounded by Japanese war ships. After midnight the Houston was struck by four torpedoes and she rolled over and sunk. He was reported missing on 1 March 1942 and killed in action on 15 December 1945, body nonrecoverable. Rating of Seaman Second Class.
