He enlisted on his twentieth birthday. Attended armament school at Lowery Field in Denver, Colorado. He spent 18 months working on the flight line and attending gunnery school in Blythe, California. He finished his service at Attu on the Aleutian Islands working as an armorer with the 77th Bombardment Squadron. He was Honorably Discharged on January 7, 1946.
