He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 9, 1942 and was honorably discharged on February 24, 1946. He served as a Sergeant in the 8th Air Force, 555th Fighter Squadron for three years in England. For his service he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
