Activity During WWII

Served as a pilot in the 410th Squadron of the 94th Bomb Group. On December 18, 1944, on the second day of the Battle of the Bulge, his assigned mission was the marshaling yard at Mainz. Piloting a B-17, 'Erie Ferry', encountered extensive clouds, at the rally point 3 engines failed. Over France, he ordered the crew to bail out and they all successfully made it back. He did not.
