Activity During WWII

Rank: 2nd Lieutenant. Served with the 276th Engineer Combat Battalion a subordinate unit of the 1159th Engineer Combat Group in the European Theater of Operations. After the capture of the Ludendorff Railroad Bridge at Remagen, Germany, his battalion assumed the responsibility of repairing the bridge, which at been severely damaged by detonation of explosives and artillery fire by the German Armed forces. Reported missing in action Saturday, March 17, 1945 when the bridge collapsed, falling into the Rhine River. In remembrance of the Brave, his name is recorded in the Tablets of the Missing, memorialized at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery located at Henri-Chapelle, Belgium. Decorations: Purple Heart, American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. This Lieutenant, an American Patriot, awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life in the defense of his country.
