Rank: Private 1st Class. On September 29, 1942, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps from Washington, receiving his combat infantry training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California. Deployed to the Pacific Theater of Operations where he served as a Rifleman, assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the 6th ‘The Striking Sixth’ Division. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Japanese Imperial Army and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1-June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Wednesday, June 6, 1945 and buried in Sixth Division battlefield cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his remains were transferred to Honolulu, with interment in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, ‘Punchbowl’ Hawaii. This Marine, an American Patriot, awarded the Purple Heart with a Gold Star posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
