Activity During WWII

He served in the China-Burma-India Theatre of Operations, flying the hump as a radio operator. He flew 94 missions. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation from President Roosevelt, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with one battle star. In 1985 he was presented with silver wings as an honorary member of the Nationalist Chinese Air Force for his efforts in delivering supplies. He was awarded the China War Memorial Medal by the Government of the Republic of China.
