He rejoined the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry in 1942 as a Captain, serving until his release as a Major in 1945. He was Wounded and captured by the French in Morocco, Africa, and received Purple Heart. He Served in Salerno, Italy and Anzio beachhead, Italy. Wounded a second time at Anzio, received Oak Leaf Cluster for Purple Heart. Received the European theater ribbon with four campaign stars for invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Tunisian and Italian campaigns. He also Received the American defense ribbon and Bronze Star.
