He was killed in action on 4 January 1945, fighting with the 141st Infantry Regiment, Company E, of the 36th Infantry Division near Lemberg, France. He was Missing in Action until September of 1945, when a translated German document led U.S. personnel to his grave. He had been with his unit less than two weeks.
