Rank: Sergeant. On June 9, 1941, he entered into the United States Army at Detroit, Michigan, receiving his infantry training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Served with the 136th Infantry Regiment a subordinate unit of the 33rd Infantry ‘Golden Cross’ Division attached to the U.S. 6th Army in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf, Battle of Luzon against the Imperial Japanese armed forces (Battle Dates: January 9-August 15, 1945) Code Name: S-Day. Killed in Action Wednesday, February 28, 1945 in the Caraballo Mountains and buried in the United States Armed Forces Battlefield Cemetery, Santa Barbara #1 Philippine Islands. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment February 1, 1950 at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This Soldier, a Native American citizen, a descendant of the Sioux ‘Rosebud’ tribe so gallantly gave his life for his country.
