Entered the U.S. Navy in November, 1942. Trained as a combat medic. Served as a Corpsman with the 4th Marine Division, Battalion Headquarters Company. Fought at Marshall Islands (Kwajalein Atoll), the Mariana Islands (Saipan and Tinian), and Iwo Jima. Earned two Purple Hearts and later served in Occupation forces in Germany. Earned the Purple Heart twice, Good Conduct medal, merit unit ribbon, Navy combat ribbon, Pacific campaign ribbon, the Occupation ribbon and WWII Victory medal.
