Rank: Private 1st Class. On April 22, 1944, he entered the United States Marine Corps as an enlistee from Pennsylvania, receiving his combat infantry training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina. Served as a Rifleman with Company-B, 1st Battalion, 29th Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the Sixth Marine ‘The Striking Sixth’ Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Imperial Army and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1-June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Friday, May 18, 1945 and buried in the Sixth Marine Division cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment March 13, 1949 at the Gosherts Union Church Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
