He served as a Private First Class in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 398th Infantry Regiment, Second Battalion, Company G, in the European Theater of Operations. He was a Prisoner of War in Germany and was in Stalag 4C, Wistritz Bei Teplitz Bohemia 56-13 from December 4, 1944 until July 17, 1945.
