Joined up in 1942. Taught mechanics at the Great Lakes Machine Shop, then assigned to the USS Sandoval. He played in the ships band and was at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Earned the Good Conduct medal, the American and Pacific theatre ribbons (8 stars) and the WWII Victory medal.
