He served as a Technical Sergeant in WWII with the 100th Infantry Division (Century Division), 399th Infantry Regiment, First Battalion, Company D, in the European Theater of Operations. Wounded in Action, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action; Raon L'Etape, France.
