Rank: Private 1st Class. On November 4, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Oregon, receiving his medical schooling while assigned to Company-B, Fifth Medical Battalion at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Served as a Medical Corpsman with Company-E, Fifth Medical Battalion a subordinate unit of the 5th Marine ‘The Spearhead/Fighting Fifth’ Division in the Western Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima (Battle Dates: February 19-March 26, 1945) Code Name: Operation Detachment. Reported missing in action Saturday, March 17, 1945, memorialized at the Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii. His family has placed a Memorial Marker in his memory at the Wilson Cemetery in Chiloquin, Oregon. This Marine, a Native American Indian, a descendant of the Klamath Tribe awarded the Purple Heart posthumously, who so gallantly gave his life for his country.
