Activity During WWII

Rank: Corporal. On December 15, 1942, he entered the United States Marine Corps from Alabama, receiving his Combat Infantry Training at the Recruit Depot, Marine Corps Base in San Diego, California. Served with Battery-E, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the 4th Marine ‘The Fighting Fourth’ Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the amphibious assault against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces on the Volcanic Island of Iwo Jima, Code Name: Operation Detachment. Killed in Action Monday, February 19, 1945 on the first day of the invasion and buried in the Fourth Marine Division cemetery on Iwo. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment at the Forrest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
