Activity During WWII

Rank: Private. On June 20, 1944, he entered the United States Marine Corps from North Carolina, receiving his combat infantry training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. Served with Company-D as a Rifleman, 2nd Battalion, 29th Marine Regiment a subordinate unit of the 6th Marine ‘The Striking Sixth’ Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations. His division participated in the Battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands against the Imperial Japanese Army and Naval forces (Battle Dates: Easter Sunday, April 1-June 22, 1945) Code Name: Operation Iceberg. Killed in action Saturday, May 19, 1945 and buried in the Sixth Marine Division Cemetery on Okinawa. After the cessation of hostilities with Japan, his family received his remains for burial, with interment at the Pridgen Cemetery in Warrenton, North Carolina. This Marine, an American Patriot, so gallantly gave his life for his country.
