He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper 2nd class in the Special Supply Branch. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan aboard the USS Buckner Bay. He mustered out in 1945 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He then returned to civilian life in California.
